KARACHI, July 7: Chief Controller of Buildings Manzoor Kadir has said that violation of building rules had led to the collapse of the building in Swat Colony, Baldia Town, on Sunday. Ten people were killed and another 20 injured in the incident, he noted.

A statement issued by the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA) on Monday said that like many other buildings in katchi abadis, the ill-fated one on plot No.1725/1436 in Azimabad Mohallah was constructed in violation of the prescribed building bylaws.

It stressed on strict adherence of the laws for all sort of construction, saying that the activity must be undertaken under the supervision of authenticated architects/engineers.

It warned the general public against living in those buildings which had already been declared dangerous citing the possible bad weather conditions during the monsoon.—APP
