ISLAMABAD, June 20: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has granted remission to prisoners on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
According to a press release issued here on Friday, the remission has been granted in recognition of slain leader’s sacrifices for the supremacy of law and cause of democracy in the country.
The prime minister has granted 90 days remission to prisoners convicted for life imprisonment except those convicted for murder, espionage, anti-state activities, sectarianism, rape, robbery, kidnapping/abduction, and terrorist acts.
A remission of 45 days was granted to all other convicts except the condemned prisoners, convicted of murder, espionage subversion, anti-state activities and terrorist acts.
The remissions will be admissible provided the convicts have undergone two-thirds of their imprisonment.
Total remission has been given to male prisoners who are 65 years of age or above and have undergone at least one-third of their imprisonment, except those involved in culpable homicide and those involved in terrorist acts.
Total remission has also been given to female prisoners who are 60 years of age or above and have undergone at least one-third of their sentence of imprisonment, except those involved in culpable homicide and in terrorist acts.
Special remission of one year will be given to the female prisoners who have accompanying children and are serving sentence of imprisonment for crimes other than culpable homicide and terrorist acts.
Total remission has been given to juvenile (under 18 years of age) convicts who have served one-third of their substantive sentence except those involved in culpable homicide and terrorist acts.
