Mohsin fires 69 to grab lead

LAHORE, Oct 6: Mohsin Anwar of Lahore Gymkhana (handicap 10) surged into lead with a net score of 12 under-par 132 on second day of the 11th Governor Cup golf tournament at the Gymkhana course on Saturday.

Mohsin had resumed on second spot with a net score of 69. He completed the outer round in 35 and the inner round in 38 strokes. He had birdies on the fifth, sixth, seventh and 17th holes while dropping strokes on the third, fourth, eighth, 12th and 13 holes.

In the gross event, national champion Shahid Javed Khan of Punjab Golf Association (PGA) and Vaqas Ahmad (Rawalpindi) maintained their lead, aggregating par 144 each after the second round.

Both are scratch players and had played the first round at one under-par 71 but had a second round of one over-par 73. Shahid and Vaqas completed the outer round in 36 and the inner round in 37.

Shahid had birdies on the seventh, 11th and 16th holes but bogeyed the fourth, eighth, 10th and 18th holes. Vaqas had birdies on the sixth, ninth, 16th and 17th holes. He lost a strokes on the third, fourth, eighth, 11th and 12th holes.

In the net event on the second day, Mustafa Rafi Khan of Lahore Gymkhana (handicap 18) occupied the second position at 10 under-par 134.

On Saturday, Mustafa did the outer round in 39 and the inner round in 42 strokes. Mustafa played five pars on the front nine holes and played four pars on the back nine holes.

Lahore Gymkhana’s Umer Azeem (handicap 17) and Tariq Misbah (handicap 12) were tied at the third spot with a net score of nine under-par 135. Umer Azeem had completed the first round on Friday with a net score of 70 but did the second round with a net score of 65.

He did the outer round in 40 and the inner round in 42 strokes. Umer had four pars each on the front nine and the back nine.

Tariq Misbah followed up his 72 on Friday with 63 on Saturday. Tariq did the outer round in 36 and the inner round in 39. He had nine pars and had three birdies.

Lahore Gymkhana’s Ali Ahmad (handicap 18) and Tanvir Najam (handicap 10) were tied at the second spot on the second day with the net score of 138 each.

Adil Jahangir of Lahore Gymkhana (handicap 3) was occupying second position with a gross score of three over-par 147. He had 76 on the first day a 71 on the second.

Muhammad Safdar also of Lahore Gymkhana (handicap 2), aggregated five over-par 149 after the second round to be on the third position.
