HYDERABAD, June 7: Advocate General of Sindh Yusuf Leghari has said that he is trying to get complete details of missing persons in the province to be able to bring actual facts before the court.

Speaking to journalists at a dinner hosted in his honour by the Sindh Democratic Forum (SDF) at the residence of forum convenor Abrar Kazi late on Friday night, Leghari said that he would try to have his officers conduct a thorough inquiry into the missing people.

He said that police officers would be asked to provide complete details of the missing and in case of failure in recovery they would be asked to explain as to why they had failed.

To a question, Leghari said that if the deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry visited the province he should be given protocol worthy of a Chief Justice of Pakistan because he was still drawing salary for the post.

He hoped the criminal cases would be disposed of expeditiously after the separation of prosecution side. Prosecutors would now be asked to ensure disposal of cases as early as possible, he said.

He avoided making comments on the lawyers’ long march, saying that he was no more a member of the Pakistan Bar Council because he had become advocate general.

Our Mirpurkhas correspondent adds: Leghari said that he had been given a free hand by the government but he would not support any wrongdoing.

He said at a reception hosted in his honour by Raees Ahmed Khan on Saturday that all the government departments must work within their frameworks.

He said that over 60,000 cases were pending trial in courts and their number was increasing by each passing day. Justice would be provided to people through speedy proceedings, he assured.

District Naib Nazim Dr Zafar Ahmed Kamali, DCO Abdul Rahim Soomro, S.A. Khan advocate, Rais Ahmed Khan, Zafar Ahmed Leghari, Sher Mohammad Wassan and Imtiaz Panhwar also spoke on the occasion.
