Team off to meet Zardari

KARACHI, May 28: A delegation of members of the Board of directors, accompanied by some senior stockbrokers, had taken off for Islamabad to meet PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, reports from various sources suggested late in the evening.

Broker and member directors were not taking phone calls, which precluded a firsthand confirmation. But sources said that the government had decided to give hearing to the KSE representatives, after frantic calls following 3,505 points or a 22 per cent fall in KSE-100 index, in just 26 trading sessions since April 18. That included a 4.42 per cent or 567 per cent drop on Wednesday.

The main issue on the agenda of the meeting was expected to be the continuation of Capital Tax Gains exemption in the upcoming budget. The CGT is to expire on June 30—DH.
