PERTH, May 23: Pakistan star batsman Younis Khan has not been signed by the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) to play in the next domestic season, chief executive Graeme Wood said.
Wood denied reports that the star batsman would play for the Warriors in the 2008-2009 first-class Sheffield Shield competition.
“No one from the WACA has made an approach to Younis Khan or his management,” Wood said in a statement on Friday. “The reports are totally unfounded and without basis.”
Pakistan Cricket Board chief Dr Nasim Ashraf said on Thursday that 30-year-old Younis was set to follow in the footsteps of countrymen Majid Khan, Imran Khan and Sadiq Mohammad and feature in the Australian domestic competition.
“Younis is a great player and that is why he was approached and we have no objection to him playing for an Australian side when our national team is not playing,” he said.
Younis has played 58 Tests and 167 One-day Internationals for Pakistan since making his debut in 2000.—AFP
