LARKANA, May 16: Power supply to a major part of Dokri, Bakrani, including Mohenjodaro site, airport and cadet college Larkana could not be restored even after 30 hours after a transformer developed a fault.

Confirming the disorder developed in the 10/13 MW transformer of Dokri grid station on Thursday evening, the executive engineer Ghulam Rasool looking after the grid stations said on Friday that restoration work was underway and power supply could be restored at any time.

He said that ‘bushes’ of the transformer had gone faulty due to overload which had affected Dokri City, colony feeder and Bakrani feeder.

Hesco sources said that after complete repair the transformer again developed a fault while being tested. It had further delayed restoration of power supply to the area.

It was learnt that Hesco officials were trying to provide electricity to Dokri town from any alternate source.

The people experienced difficulties amid summer in Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot district on Friday when mercury shot up to 47 degree Celsius. The roads wore a desert look as people chose to remain indoor and trade activities were also affected. The power shut down had severely affected the Cadet College where students were facing hardship. The entire Mohenjodaro museum, site and adjacent villages were still without power. The power outage had put the museum at risk as few years ago the precious artifacts were burgled from the museum amidst insufficient electricity arrangements. Power supply to Murad Wahan feeder remained suspended from 10.30 am to 2.40 pm while Hesco officials had adopted a strategy to save energy consumption by installing ‘de-fittings’ at different points in the city to switch-off and power supply to particular areas, sources said. The concerned Hesco officials always take a cover by saying that a ‘fault’ had developed.

On Friday the Mirokhan and Waleed feeders remained worst affected, Hesco said.
