KARACHI, May 16: Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Azizullah M. Memon held a meeting of SHC officers on Friday to consider measures to streamline and improve the working of the court, says a press release issued by the SHC registrar.
Accompanied by Justice Munib Ahmed Khan (senior puisne judge) and Justice Khalid Ali Z. Qazi, he told the meeting that “utmost punctuality and discipline” shall be observed to ensure efficient and smooth working.
The officers were asked to share their experiences and problems and make suggestions for further improvement. Any violation of the SHC rules or irregularity was ordered to be reported by the in-charge of the branch concerned to the registrar.
Justice Memon emphasised the proper maintenance of the case files. It was suggested that interlocutory and miscellaneous applications pertaining to a case should be kept in a separate file tagged onto the main file. The documents should be kept in such a manner that they were easily accessible and safe at the same time.
The registrar was asked to gather information from other high courts and propose practicable measures in this regard.
The process-serving agency was specifically directed to improve its performance and it was made clear that any lapse on its part would be dealt with sternly. The cause list must be ready by 2pm every day for the following day. The cases in which general adjournment is granted may be de-listed in advance so that they do not figure in the list at all.
The CJ said that personal assistants and personal secretaries would be subjected to test to ensure their efficiency. All officers and members of staff were assured that their cases for promotion would be considered on merit while orders in violation or disregard of merit rules would be scrutinised. Good work would be rewarded and action would be taken against delinquents, he warned.
