KARACHI, May 15: The last proceeding in a foreign court against Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has been terminated, the Sindh High Court was informed on Thursday.

Deputy Attorney-General Rizwan Ahmed Siddiqui produced a letter certifying that the proceeding initiated by the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division, Commercial Court, London, at the request of the government of Pakistan was finally terminated on May 13.

All the parties have been served notice of discontinuance, the letter said.

The proceeding related to the Rockwood Estate allegedly purchased by Mr Zardari through an offshore company registered at the Isle of Man.

Mr Zardari had moved the petition in 2006 but amended it after the promulgation of the National Reconciliation Ordinance in October 2007 to seek the quashment of all accountability cases and proceedings pending for years in Pakistani and foreign courts.

Seven references were quashed by Pakistani courts, including one on merit, and three proceedings were withdrawn by Swiss and British judicial authorities at Pakistan’s request.

His counsel Adnan Karim informed the division bench seized of the petition on Thursday that he would like to go through the contents of the letter produced by the deputy attorney-general and consult his client before making further submissions.

The bench, which consisted of Justices Azizullah M. Memon and Khalid Ali Z. Qazi, allowed the request and adjourned the hearing to a date in office.
