ISLAMABAD, May 12: The Islamabad High Court on Monday served notice on Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Kamran Lashari and directed him to submit comments on a contempt of court petition filed against the authority for flouting its earlier order restraining it from continuing work in a public park to convert it into a commercial venture.
The contempt petition was moved by concerned citizens of Sector F-7/3 through Barrister Saleem Zulfikar Khan pleading the court to proceed against the CDA chief under Section 4 of the Contempt of Court Act 1976.
The contempt petition was filed after the CDA allegedly violated the court’s earlier order stopping it from raising construction for a commercial mini golf club in the public park at Sector F-7/3.
The CDA has yet to come up with a justification for construction of the mini golf club by filing its reply with the court despite repeated instructions.
The petitioners have also attached with the petition photographs showing construction work at the recreational site which according to the CDA parlance is a ‘Class A park.’
The earlier petition was moved by 11 concerned residents of the locality, mostly living in Streets 3, 8, 9 and 10 of F-7/3, alleging that the project was being executed by the CDA without securing the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned agencies and therefore was illegal, unjustified and being developed with a malafide intention.
