KARACHI, May 6: The city government has renewed its resolve to ensure availability of commodities at fixed prices, and asked shopkeepers to follow the CDGK price list.

Acting City Nazim Nasreen Jalil, during her meeting with DCO Javed Hanif on Tuesday, said that the prices of milk, wheat flour, rice, fruits, meat and vegetables had been fixed and citizens should ask shopkeepers for the price list before buying the listed items. In case of over-charging, they should report to concerned DDO for action against the shopkeeper, she added.

She observed that there was no shortage of meat as the supply of animals for slaughtering was normal.

She said an annual fee of Rs50 was charged as per the relevant CDGK by-laws for the issuance of health certificate for the animals being brought from other provinces.

She said monitoring of supply and price control would be maintained, and asked the DCO to continue to focus on meat supply and price stability, besides ensuring that citizens did not face any difficulty in getting items of daily use.

The DCO informed her about the campaign against profiteers, and said that in April alone, Rs2.1 million was recovered as fine from milkmen for overcharging. As many as 225 milkmen were sent to jail, he added.

Appreciating the action, Ms Jalil noted that dairy farmers had been given best ever facilities to cooperate in the drive against price hike. Their 40-year-old issue of lease was addressed and their problems of water supply and road construction were also resolved, she added.—APP
