KHANEWAL, April 30: The government has decided to monitor the activities of non-government organisations (NGOs) working in all districts of the province, it is learnt.
A letter seen by Dawn states the Punjab Social Welfare directorate general directed all district officers of social welfare and women’s development: “It has been reported by the Ministry of Interior and Home Department that some NGOs are involved in undesirable activities, which require a proper monitoring of their activities.
Most of the NGOs are working without signing any memorandum of understanding or getting a no-objection certificate from the departments.”
The letter reads the Punjab home secretary has ordered that all unregistered NGOs functioning within the jurisdiction of district officers may be ceased forthwith and instructs the registered NGOs to abide by their MoUs failing which their NOC and registration may be cancelled.
“We have asked all officers working in districts and tehsils to monitor the activities of NGOs by checking their record pertaining relating the utilisation of funds, finance, audit and activity reports,” said Community Development Department EDO Chaudhry Maqsood.
He said the department checked unregistered NGOs working in the district and a report in this regard would be prepared in a couple of days.
NCHD: The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) has imparted training to 363,400 women on Nimkol preparation across the district, a meeting convened to review the NCHD performance learnt.
NCHD District General Manager Suhail Tippu briefed the meeting that the commission had conducted health screening of students in 28 union councils under a School Health Programme. District Coordination Officer Qazi Afaq, who chaired the meeting, urged the NCHD’s team to accelerate and continue their efforts towards social and behavioral changes in the district.
He asked National Logistic Cell representatives to speed-up the constructional work of various government buildings.
The DCO warned the government officers to ensure their presence in the offices by 8pm and get their leave applications approved before a day of leaving the offices.
