NOWSHERA, April 25: Four members of a family were killed when a two-storey building collapsed in Jalozai, 40 kilometres from here, early Friday morning.

Local people said Haider Ali, his wife Shomaila, and daughters Alizai, 1, and Muskan, 5, were asleep in their home when the upper roof of the house caved in, which caused collapse of the building.

The mother and sister of Mr Ali, the wife of Rasool Khan and their children, who were sleeping in another room in the house, survived the incident.

Neighbours woke up due to the sound of the collapse and rushed to the site for rescue work. The bodies were retrieved from the debris after six hours.

The deceased were laid to rest in their ancestral graveyard. A large number of people participated in the funeral prayers.

Provincial Minister for Information Mian Ifftikhar Hussain expressed sorrow and shock over the demise of the four family members and promised financial assistance for the bereaved family.
