KARACHI, April 20: Descri-bing the killing of its two workers as an open act of terrorism, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has demanded that the government take notice of the incident and order immediate arrest of the culprits.
Speaking at a press conference here at the party’s headquarters on Sunday, the deputy convener of the coordination committee, Dr Farooq Sattar, said that armed terrorists fired indiscriminately on party workers in Landhi, killing two workers and leaving two others seriously wounded.
Without naming the rival Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi), he blamed what he called Haqiqi terrorists for killing the party workers.
He said that so far 11 workers of his party had been killed in different incidents of terrorism, and added that under such circumstances the MQM could not sit silent and would adopt a way of peaceful protest.
Dr Sattar also condemned an incident of firing on Bilawal House, the Pakistan People’s Party headquarters, and said the killing of the MQM workers and the attack on Bilawal House were interconnected and part of a conspiracy to destroy the peace of the city.
He appealed to all workers and supporters not to get provoked and remain united to foil all conspiracies aimed at destroying Karachi’s peace.
He demanded the president, the prime minister, the Sindh governor and chief minister immediately arrest the killers of MQM workers and those who had attacked Bilawal House.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of the two workers was held at the Jinnah Ground, Azizabad, which was attended by a large number of people.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain condemned the killings of his two workers, Maqbool Ahmed and Abdul Razzak, in Landhi.
In a statement issued from London, he expressed deep grief over the killings and offered condolence to the bereaved families.
