KARACHI, April 22: Reckless driving killed four persons, including a traffic police constable, in the city on Monday.
A 14-year-old boy died in a road accident in Sindhi Muslim Housing Society (SMHS).
The police said that Lal Jan was knocked down by a speeding water tanker (QAC-7184) at Qazi Chowk in SMHS. The boy was a rag-picker. The tanker knocked him down when he was paddling away his bicycle. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
People present at the nearby shops caught the fleeing driver of the tanker, identified as Mushtaq, and handed him over to the police.
The accident caused a prolonged traffic jam at the busy roundabout. The police also claimed to have impounded the water tanker.
An elderly woman was run over by an unidentified vehicle on the main Sharea Faisal.
A constable of the traffic police was run over by a speeding trawler on National Highway near the Steel Mills.
The police said that Abdul Ghafoor, aged 30, a traffic police constable posted at Zulfiqarabad traffic chowki, was on duty at D-Chowk near the Pakistan Steel on National Highway when he was run over by a trawler (JT-1369).
A man died in a road accident in Gulistan-i-Jauhar in the morning.
The police said that Abdul Qadir was travelling on his motorcycle (KCT-3427) when a Karachi University point bus (JA-6345) knocked him down.
He was rushed to the JPMC where he died.
Two young men were injured in a road accident in Gulshan-i-Iqbal in the night. They were rushed to Civil Hospital.
