KARACHI: 14 cars, 9 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, April 21: Twenty-three vehicles — 14 cars and nine motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, the police said.

Nine cars were hijacked and five others stolen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Jamshed, Gulberg and Saddar Towns.

Five motorcycles were hijacked and four others stolen in Aziz Bhatti, Shah Faisal Colony, Garden and North Nazimabad police limits.

The police also claimed on Sunday to have recovered 17 vehicles in the past 48 hours. The recovered vehicles are (Z-9021, AAF-268, ACF-320, KB-8905, AB-3290, KCX-8041, KCK-2553, STR-0431, KCJ-9847, KAM-2640, KAS-8739, KCW-3499, KAS-4593, KCU-4165, BR-405, KCC-9786 and KCM-558).

WOUNDED: A drug pusher shot and wounded a policeman in Azam Basti, Mehmoodabad, on Sunday.

The police said that Mohammad Ashraf, aged 28, was sitting in a restaurant in Azam Basti where he resided. A drug peddler entered the restaurant and started dealing with an unidentified person, the police said.

A policeman, in plain clothes, tried to arrest the drug peddler who opened fire on him and escaped. The injured policeman was rushed to the JPMC where he was being operated upon when this report was filed. People caught the drug peddler and handed him over to the police.
