GUJRANWALA, April 20: Employees of the Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education continued on Saturday their pen-down strike against non-payment of salaries according to the enhanced pay scales.
Gujranwala BISE Employees Welfare Association president Chaudhry Bashir Ahmad told newsmen on Saturday that the decision to continue the protest was taken after Punjab Education Boards Employees Federation’s talks with the Education Department secretary and the Punjab Boards Chairmen Committee failed on Friday.
He said that the secretary and the committee asked the federation to call off the strike till April 30 and assured that the BISEs employees would get their salaries according to new scale.
The federation rejected the proposal, saying that sufficient time had already been given to the authorities in this regard.
DEATH FOR KILLER: Additional District and Sessions Judge Jamshed Hussain awarded on Saturday death sentence to Muhammad Amir with Rs100,000 fine in a murder case.
The convict was also awarded 30 years imprisonment with Rs35,000 fine for injuring three men.
The court acquitted co-accused Muhammad Asad, Muhammad Asim, Qamar Hussain, Haji Zamir Hussain, Muhammad Azam and Sikandar, giving them the benefit of doubt.
The fine money would be distributed among the heirs of the deceased.
According to the prosecution, Amir killed Hamid Hussain and injured Nasir, Abdul Majid and Abid Hussain over a minor issue on Chand Da Qila bypass on Aug 6, 2001.
