LAHORE, March 22: Three-year-old filly Rags To Riches, who registered a fluent victory on March 16, will be on the course to make it a two in a row by winning the Jhelum Cup at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The six-race card includes two cup events after the long-awaited Shalimar Cup, an over 1,400 metres term race for three-year-old colts, was declared void following few entries.
The bay filly from Replay out-of-Coxswain, Rags To Riches, who is in top form after winning the class IV division II and III handicap race last Sunday stands out in the eight contestants for the class IV division I, II and III combined handicap race to be gone over 1,600 metres. This will be the fifth race in the racing order.
The filly trained by Sohail Aziz, after being promoted a division higher, is in a different class in comparison to her seven rivals. In her five outings to date, she has already won two races, placed second twice and third once.
The supporting event, the Nero’s Dream Cup class V division I, to be contested over 1,200 metres, has a field of 10 runners barring last-minute withdrawals. Of them four, namely, Janu, Can Can Girl, Byron and Houstan look on chance. On recent performance, Janu is the faster one with an edge over the others. Can Can Girl, Byron and Houstan should fight for places in the fourth race of the day.
The Nero’s Dream Plate, class V division I and II over 1,200 metres has the biggest field of 16 runners. Shakalaka, Miss Liza, Don’t Follow and Munsaf are the pick of the lot here.
Three-year-old chestnut colt Dubai Fan looks classier than his 14-rivals in the second race, the Nero’s Dream Plate class V division III over 1,200 metres.
Melody Queen, Sabbat Qadam and Willhewish may fight for the frame.
In the first race, four competitors are on chance. They are Raksh-e-Raqeeban, Love Minister, My Delilah and Dream Act. The way the three-year-old filly Dream Act won the last time out, there hardly seems any chance of her being defeated. The other three should fight for places too in the first race of the day.
The sixth and the last race, a class VI division I and II handicap event over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres looks a match between Honest Minister and Pick Of The Day. They are equally placed in handicap. Pick Of The Day was beaten on Wednesday last in the over 900 metres race and with an additional 100 metres added to the distance, she should make amends and win the race. But much depends on pace. The slower pace should suit Pick Of The Day.
Two races in a card of six will be contested in the over 1,000 metres distance, with three in the over 1,200 metres and one over 1,600 metres. The first race commences at 1.30pm.
