KARACHI, March 22: On the second day of the 8th Sindh Amateur Golf Championship at the Arabian Sea Country Club (ASSC) on Saturday, Muhammad Ali Hai jumped into the lead after ending up second behind Sajid Khan in round one the previous day.

Despite a round of one-over-par 73, Hai, who has represented Pakistan in several international events including last year’s Numura Cup in South Africa, finished with an aggregate of 142.

Meanwhile, ASSC’s Sajid, who got off to a spectacular start with four-under-par 68 on Friday, was disappointing on day two to finish five strokes behind Ali Hai. Sajid ended with a total of 147 after a poor round of seven-over-par 79.

Zohaib Asif played the day’s best round of one-under 71 occupying the third spot with 148. Zohaib was, however, leading in the net competition with an aggregate of 140 followed by Sajid Khan at 141 and Ali Hai third at 144.

Among the ladies, Tahira Nazeer of Islamabad Golf Club started well with an opening round of 77 and Beverley Harvey was second at 82.

Aman Ashraf Jafri clinched the junior title with an aggregate of 165 after playing the round of 78-77 with Saadul Huda finishing as the runners-up at 171.

Rehan Mirza of Karachi Golf Club was leading in the gross contest in the seniors category with a score of 77 followed by DHA’s Maj (Retd) Rizwan at 81 and Capt. (Retd) Khizer Naqvi 82 and a further stroke behind at 83 was the seasoned Murtaza Qasim.—APP
