KARACHI, March 22: Four ranking players including defending champion Naveen Perwani (5th seed) and losing finalist Vishan Gir (11th seed), both from Sindh, met their waterloo by making unceremonious exits in league of the 33rd National Snooker Championship which entered the knockout stage at the Karachi Gymkhana on Saturday.
Those who joined the above two and could not go beyond the league fixtures include seventh seed Abu Saim, and 14th seed Sohail Shehzad.
The unseeded players who created a stir by making their way into the last 16 pre quarter-finals are Mohammad Sajjad, Farhan Noor, Imran Qamar and Saqib Butt.
Naveen claimed his maiden national title by getting the better of Vishan 6-3 in the final last year.
The top four seeded cueists — Saleh Mohammad, Imran Shahzad, Mohammad Yousuf and Khurram Agha — lived up to their reputation when they rounded-off their league matches on a winning note.
The best of nine frames pre quarter-finals will be played on Monday in two sessions. The first session begins at 10.00am.
