KARACHI: Man acquitted of carjacking

KARACHI, Oct 23: The anti-terrorism court No 1, headed by Judge Syed Zakir Husain, acquitted on Tuesday a man of the charge of carjacking.

Syed Mazhar Ali was prosecuted for hijacking a car from complainant Ghulam Mohiuddin on June 18 in Site.

CONVICTED: The special anti-narcotics court, headed by Judge Ali Nawaz Pirzada, convicted two drug pushers and sentenced them to different jail terms.

Accused/convict Saleem, who was arrested on March 31 with 400 grams of heroin by the Gulzar-i-Hijri police, was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs5,000. He would have to undergo an additional six months’ imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

The judge sentenced Khalid Husain alias Doctor to two years’ rigorous imprisonment for possessing 200 grams of heroin. The accused/convict, arrested on June 16, was also fined Rs5,000, and he would have to undergo an additional six months’ imprisonment in case of default on the payment of fine.

Both the drug pushers were convicted after they pleaded guilty before the court.

The district and sessions judge, South, Agha Rafique Ahmed Khan, sentenced a man to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for house robbery.

Accused/convict Noor Mohammed was tried for committing robbery in Syed Aminul Haq’s house in Gizri.

The accused/convict, who had also injured the complainant’s daughter Ambreen was also fined Rs50,000. He would have to undergo an additional six months’ imprisonment in case of default on the payment of fine.

JUDGMENT RESERVED: The accountability court No 1, headed by Judge Rahmat Husain Jafferi, reserved judgment in a corruption case against a former divisional engineer of the PTCL.

The judge fixed Oct 31 for the announcement of judgment after hearing final arguments from the prosecution and the defence.

Accused Saeedullah Soomro has been tried for amassing wealth through corrupt and illegal means.

GHOUS: Judge Dr Qamaruddin Bohra of the accountability court No 1 put off till Nov 11 the hearing of a corruption reference against Syed Ghous Ali Shah, a former minister of defence.
