LAHORE, March 19: The Supreme Court Bar Association has urged coalition party leaders Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari to nominate SCBA President Aitzaz Ahsan as their candidate for National Assembly seat NA-123 when it is vacated by incumbent Makhdoom Javed Hashmi.

A statement issued by SCBA Secretary Chaudhry Muhammad Amin on Wednesday said Aitzaz’s election to the National Assembly would allow him to better represent the lawyers and the masses-at-large in their struggle to restore the judiciary.

While in the National Assembly, Aitzaz’s expert knowledge on legal matters, specifically relating to the Constitution, would be an asset in implementing the Murree declaration that was promulgated by the PPP and the PML-N, he added.

Further, Amin said Aitzaz’s election to the NA would strengthen the coalition’s position which he described as being ‘weakened’. — Staff Reporter
