LAHORE, March 13: Some 266 golfers including amateurs, senior amateurs, veterans, ladies and boys will compete for top honours in the 18th Corps Commander Cup golf to be held at the Lahore Garrison course from Friday to Sunday.

The three-day competition will have 13 teams participating in the team trophy event, while 104 amateurs, 64 senior amateurs, 28 veterans, 16 ladies and 42 boys will be proving their mettle in individual gross and net.

Mohammad Rehman (Royal Palm), Mohammad Safdar (Gujranwala), Wasim Rana (Karachi), Mehmood Aziz (Islamabad), Hamza Amin (Islamabad), Abdul Haq (Peshawar), Fakhar Imam (Garrison), Kamran Ashraf (Okara) are prominent among the amateurs.

The championship is open to all golf clubs, affiliated with the Pakistan Golf Federation and each club is allowed to enter two teams maximum. Individual players will vie for the honours in the individual event for amateurs. Players with a handicap of 12 and below are eligible to participate.

A spokesman of the Garrison course said that hole number 2 has a new green guarded by a huge pond, which also serves as a hazard course for the neighbouring 7th hole green. A huge lake has been constructed parallel to the fairway of the par-5, 15th hole.
