KASUR, March 9: Lawyers, accompanied by people from some other callings as well, on Sunday set about campaigning for the cause of the deposed judges with renewed pledge galvanised by the “black-flag-week slogan”.

At a meeting on the premises of the district courts, the Kasur District Bar Association paid a tribute to what the lawyers said the firm stand of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and others. They equally showered praises on those raising their voice for the restoration of the judges and independence of judiciary.

They expressed confidence in the leadership of Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmad Kurd, Munir A. Malik and Justice Tariq Mahmood (retired). They said March would prove a historic month in which the marching orders of the dictatorial rule and rejuvenation of the judiciary come to pass.Just outside the shrine of Baba Bulleh Shah (RA), a number of participants in a rally spoke against President Musharraf. The DBA announced that it would hold public meetings and take out rallies till 16th of the month.

SIALKOT: Traders and civil society representatives joined the lawyers’ anti-government move as a rally was taken out from the district courts to Allama Iqbal Chowk. Sialkot DBA President Arshad Mahmood Baggu led the rally. The participants wore black armbands and flaunted banners and placards, also hoisting black flags.

TOBA TEK SINGH: The black-flag week began in this part of the Punjab as well, with the lawyers appreciating the likely coalition government’s stand on the restoration of judges through parliament.
