Published February 21, 2008

KARACHI, Feb 20: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hold a public hearing on March 3 to take up the petition of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) for the approval of generation tariff.

PSMA has filed a petition seeking a tariff of 11.115 cents per kilowatt-hour which is equivalent to Rs6.78 per kilowatt-hour for the sale of electricity to Central Power Purchase Agency within the National Transmission and Dispatch Company.

Two PSMA members are planning to install 60-megawatt and 51.45-megawatt coal-based co-generation power plants by their sugar mills and the association is seeking approval for the reference generation tariff.

After the approval of tariff by Nepra, interested sugar mills will file individual petitions for formal approval.

The total installation cost of these plants is estimated at $96.674 million.—APP
