KARACHI, Feb 16: Ten alleged militants were remanded in police custody till Feb 23 by the judicial magistrates VI and XIII, East, on Saturday. They were arrested on Friday and booked for plotting to carry out attacks on political and religious figures during the Feb 18 elections in the city.
The suspects, Asif Iqbal alias K-Areawalla, Mohammad Jan alias Mustafa, Yasir Afaq alias Nasir alias Saad, Abdul Wahid alias Zubair, Ziaul Abdeen alias Zain, Mohammad Asif, Inayatullah Khan alias Tauseef, Mohammad Arshad alias Asad, Mohammad Zeeshan alias Shani alias Mustan Baloch and Mohammad Ahmed alias Waseem, are stated to be associated with the banned outfits, Tehrik-i-Islami and Lashkar-i-Muhammadi. According to the police, a large amount of arms, ammunition and explosives, including hand-grenades, TT pistols, detonators and chemical ingredients of explosives, was recovered from their possession. They were wanted in many cases of murder, attempt to murder, possession of illegal arms and explosives registered against them at various police stations.
Meanwhile, Judicial Magistrate, East, Maqbool Memon on Saturday adjourned the hearing of robbery and murder cases registered against the alleged Jundullah activists, Qasim Toori, Danish alias Talha and Abid, till Feb 19. The accused were arrested in a raid on a house in the Shah Latif area of Landhi on Jan 29.
The police were supposed to arrange for an identification parade on Saturday after having failed to do so during the last hearing on Feb 14. However, they again could not fulfil the requirements of the parade. Three cases were registered against the accused at Ferozabad and Korangi police stations.
