NAROWAL, Feb 7: Pakistan Muslim League-Q Punjab President Pervaiz Elahi said on Thursday that Nawaz Sharif, instead of taking oath from his candidates, should himself take oath that he would not flee the country again.
Addressing a public meeting here, Pervaiz Elahi said: “It is unworthy of a politician to sign an agreement that he will not take part in politics for 10 years, he will not return to the country and will leave the nation and party workers.”
He said Sharif had ‘no mission’, adding that he first announced that he would not participate in the election, but later he decided to contest the election.
He said Sharif was contesting the election ‘only to favour and strengthen’ Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was “nothing more than a group playing in the hands of Zardari”.
Pervaiz Elahi, also the former chief minister, said in the past Zardari’s ‘mission’ was to get 10 per cent commission, but now he was ‘eyeing’ 100 per cent commission and office of the prime minister. However, he said that Zardari’s dreams would never come true. He said the PPP ‘divided’ Pakistan, but now it was its term to break into pieces.
Pervaiz Elahi said Sharif and Zardari could compare their parties to the PML-Q. They came to power twice, but could not give the nation anything except hollow slogans. He said the PML would eliminate poverty and give 20 million young people jobs if it comes to power again.
He said Rs4.4 billion were spent on development projects in Narowal district during his tenure as chief minister. He said Narowal would be given gas and linked with the Lahore-Sialkot motorway after his election.
District Nazim Dr Naimat Javed was also present on the occasion.
