MIANWALI, Jan 30: Five workers of a fertilizer factory sustained burn injuries on Wednesday as a gas pipe burst during repairs.

Reports said as the Pak-American Fertilizer Factory had been closed for three weeks due to gas loadshedding, the management was availing this opportunity for repair and maintenance of machinery.

According to factory sources, welder Muhammad Anwar, along with his helpers Muhammad Saeed, Pervaiz Ahmed, Ghulam Qasim and Muhammad Akram, was busy welding a pipe without knowing that it still contained gas.

During the repairs, the gas caught fire due to welding spark and pipe burst, causing burns to all the five workers.

The injured were rushed to Mianwali DHQ Hospital, where Qasim and Akram were discharged after provision of medical aid while the remaining three were admitted for treatment.

According to the doctors condition of Saeed was serious.
