TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 22: A dispute between the Gojra market committee and Chaudhry Sugar Mills (owned by the Sharif family) management has been brought to the notice of higher authorities by Gojra tehsil municipal council Nazim with powers as Gojra market committee administrator.
The market committee says that there are more than Rs 20 million outstanding against the mills as market fee for the years 1991-92 to 2000-2002. The mills, however, rejects the claim and says it has already paid all dues except the current year’s Rs 74,518 only.
During a meeting with tehsil administration some days back, mills representatives said that the mills had paid fee against the sugar cane purchased from the Gojra market committee jurisdiction.
They contended that the harvest purchased from other areas did not come under the local market committee fee net according to the government policy.
The tehsil Nazim, however, rejected the mills claim. He is now trying to obtain record from other market committees of Failsalabad, Toba and Jhang to verify the mills version.
Gojra market committee sources say the mills had crushed more cane during the period but did not brought it on record.
