SAHIWAL, Jan 12: A murder case was registered against the Grain Market police SHO and four constables after a farmer reportedly died due to torture in custody here on Saturday.

Reports said that a police party, who was hunting a proclaimed offender, had taken into custody Afzal alias Shamim of Chak 91/9-L on Friday evening. During investigation, the captive fainted owing to torture and he died while being shifted to the DHQ Hospital.

Villagers and relatives of the deceased demonstrated outside the DHQ Hospital and raised slogans against the police. They later dispersed when DPO Javed Hussain Shah reached there and assured them that justice would be provided to them.

The DPO later ordered the suspension of the SHO and transferred him to the Police Lines.

The murder case was registered against SHO Chaudhry Allah Ditta and four constables on the report of the deceased’s brother.
