QUETTA, Jan 7: The Baloch-istan chapter of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) has called for a United Nations probe into the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, saying only such an investigation will satisfy people.
Members of the movement took out a procession on Monday that passed through the Jinnah Road, Sharea Iqbal, Liaquat Bazaar and ended at the Junction Chowk in the form of a rally that was addressed by Usman Kakar, Dr Ishaq Baloch, Maulana Abdul Haq Hashimi, Agha Muhammad Hussain and Shahid Qazi.
Condemning Ms Bhutto’s murder, they said that they were also protesting the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugti, Nawabzada Balaach Marri and hundreds of innocent people.
They said that the findings of domestic investigators would be according to the wishes of the government that would be unacceptable for the people.
Stressing the need for exposing people behind the killing of the PPP leader, they said they had been right about boycotting elections because they feared that the government would announce ‘engineered’ results.
Asserting that the Musharraf government was not sincere in holding transparent polls, they said that participation of opposition parties in elections would only legitimatise the process that would benefit the rulers instead of restoring the constitutional rule.
The speakers urged President Musharraf to step down, form a national government, hold impartial elections and restore judges of the superior judiciary who had refused to take oath under PCO on November 3.
