KARACHI, April 1: The Board of Secondary Education has announced to re-hold Mathematics and Chemistry (class X) examinations, which were held on March 30 when public transport remained off the roads.

Candidates who could not appear in the papers due to the strike will now be allowed to take the exams at their respective centres. The paper of Mathematics will be held on April 9, and that of Chemistry on April 13, in the afternoon shift, a notification of the Board said.

Sources in the Board said the decision was taken after students and their parents appealed to the Board authorities to re-hold the exams.

Though attendance in most of the examination centres remained around 95 per cent on March 30, the chairman of the Board decided to accommodate the hardship cases, the sources added.

City Nazim Naimatullah Khan also spoke to the BSE chairman Mohammad Aziz Ansari and urged him to fix new dates for re-holding of the exams, said a city government press release.

Meanwhile, the SSC examinations for the fresh students of class IX and X will commence from April 2, at 304 centres, including one set up in the prison.

About 1.5 million students are registered for the papers of English II (class X, science) and English I (class IX, general) which will be held in morning and afternoon shifts on Tuesday.

In addition to different vigilance teams, a monitoring cell has been set up at the Board to advise the centre superintendents and members of the vigilance teams in case of any emergency, said a senior official of the Board.
