QUETTA, Dec 12: The Afghan government closed on Wednesday its border with Pakistan at Chaman after Pakistan officials had stopped a large number of trucks carrying flour and wheat to Afghanistan.

Pakistan has put security on high alert along borders with Afghanistan and Iran to stop smuggling of wheat and flour to overcome acute shortage of flour in Sindh and Balochistan.

According to official sources Frontier Corps and Pakistan Customs personnel were carrying out strict checking of trucks at Chaman to check smuggling.

Iran also closed its border at Chagai and Taftan areas after the kidnapping of an Iranian official. Official sources said some armed men had kidnapped him from a place inside Iran.
