PESHAWAR, Dec 12: As part of a drive against encroachments along the railway track, officials demolished at least 47 shops near the Hashnagri bridge on Wednesday.

The railway track from Hashtnagri bridge to Jinnah park area has now been cleared.

“The directives to remove the encroachments were given by caretaker railways minister Manzoor Tariq some days ago during his visit to the city” DSP Raja Zaheer said.

He said that the railways land worth millions of rupees was cleaned of the encroachments where the people had established bazaars along the track.

“Besides clearing the track, we have also deputed employees to check encroachments in the future,” he said.

He said a major anti-encroachment drive to clear the railways land would be launched shortly.
