KARACHI, Nov 28: The senior civil judge and judicial magistrate, west, Shafiqullah M. Hassan, remanded on Wednesday three suspects for their alleged involvement in a double murder case in jail custody for 14 days.
According to the prosecution, Kashif, a bank manager, and his wife Mehwish were found shot dead in their house in Taisar Town on Nov 21 in Surjani Town police limits. The couple had got married 10 months ago. A suicide note saying, “We are killing ourselves on our own” and a TT pistol were also found from the scene.
Surjani Town police had registered a case (FIR No 384/2007) of murder under Section-302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the behalf of the state when the relatives of the deceased refused to lodge a case.
On Nov 27, police booked three suspects, a private security guard, Asadullah, son of Abdullah, his wife Rashida and sister-in-law Shakila for their alleged involvement in the double murder. Investigation officer Sub-inspector Ghulam Akbar Narejo of Surjani Town police station produced the three suspects in court on Wednesday.
In his confessional statement recorded with the investigation officer, Asadullah had admitted to having killed the couple.
According to the confessional statement, Kashif and Asadullah became friends when the latter was posted as a security guard at the bank. Kashif had helped Asadullah in his marriage around 15 months ago in his hometown in Multan, but his wife was too young at the time of their marriage and the couple decided not to have a baby for some time. A few months later the suspect came to know that his wife was pregnant. When he asked her about it, she said she had once gone to Kashif’s home to see his wife Mehwish who was not at home then. She said Kashif taking advantage of the situation raped her, added the statement.
It further stated that Asadullah had promised her to take her revenge. For this purpose, Asadullah along with his wife Rashida, sister-in-law Shakila and younger brother Kaleem reached the victims’ house on Nov 21. They made the couple drink milk laced with heavy tranquillizers. The suspect first shot dead Kashif and then Mehwish. They later tried to make the double murder look like a suicide by placing a suicide note on the body of Kashif, it added.
Kaleem, the fourth suspect in the case, was still at large.
Remanding the three suspects in jail custody for two weeks, the court fixed Dec 12 as the next date of hearing.
