PESHAWAR, Nov 26: A total of 120 candidates, among them former federal and provincial ministers and lawmakers, filed nomination papers for the four National Assembly and 11 provincial assembly constituencies of Peshawar as the deadline for submitting the papers passed at midnight on Monday.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place from Nov 27 to Dec 3.

Candidates of different parties went to the district and sessions courts in processions and a large number of people remained in the courts till late amid strict security.

Former federal minister Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour of the Awami National Party filed papers for National Assembly constituency NA-1. Dr Arbab Alamgir of the Pakistan People’s Party submitted his papers for NA-2. Both of them had lost the elections in 2002 to candidates of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.

Provincial chief of Pakistan Muslim League (Q), Amir Muqam, filed papers for NA-4 and NWFP Assembly constituency PF-11. The former minister belongs to Shangla district.

Those who filed papers for NA-1 include Shabir Ahmad Khan of Jamaat-i-Islami, Haji Bilour and Haroon Bilour of the ANP, former MPAs Syed Zahir Shah and Ayub Shah of the PPP, Zahoor Qureshi advocate, Aurangzeb Khan, Sultan Mohammad, Ashon Kumar, Baharullah, Haji Fakhre Alam and Nasir Francis.

The candidates for NA-2 include Maulana Rehmatullah Khalil, Dr Alamgir, Arbab Najeebullah of ANP, Asifullah Qasmi, Haji Aftab, Ijaullah Khalil, ex-MPA Ibraheem Qasmi, Syed Zahoor Hussain Shah, Abdul Sattar Khan advocate of the PML (Nawaz), Dr Iqbal Khalil of the JI, Taj Mohammad, Malik Najab Gul advocate and Azhar Majeed Mohmand.

Those who filed papers for NA-3 include Noor Alam Khan of the PPP, Ajmal Khan Afridi, Intikhab Chamkani advocate, Arbab Roohullah, Hidayatullah Gara and Taimur Khan Gara.

Former nazim Azam Khan Afridi of the PPP, Mr Muqam, former MNA Sabir Hussain Awan of the JI, former MNA Arbab Zahir of the ANP, Syed Kamal Shah, Mumtaz Iqbal, Niazullah, Mohammad Nawaz and Maulana Nisar of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam filed papers for NA-4.

For PF-1, Akber Momand of the PPP, Alamzeb Khan of the ANP, Ghalba Khursheed of Tehrik-i-Islami, Qari Abdul Lateef, Manzar Jawed, Shah Mahmood Zuberi, Mohammad Siddique, Itebar Khan and Abdul Wali Khan filed papers.

For PF-2, Syed Zahir Shah and Ayub Shah of the PPP, Haroon Bilour of the ANP, Maulan Hussain Ahmad Madni, Fakhre Alam, Saifullah Khan and Emmad Anjum Durrani filed papers.

Bashir Bilour of the ANP, Mohammad Iqbal of the PPP, Aurangzeb Mohmand of the PPP(Sherpao), Ghalba Khursheed, Maulana Abdur Rauf of the JUI-F, Qari Mohammad Yaseen, and Zakir Pervez submitted papers for PF-3.

Former senator Syed Aqil Shah of the ANP, Haji Ahsanul Haq, Arbab Mazhar Ali, Ibrahim Qasmi, Naeem Buksh and Kifayatullah filed papers for PF-4.

For PF-5, former provincial minister Amanullah Haqqani of the JUI-F, Town-3 Nazim Shakirullah, Atifur Rehman and Arbab Tariq of the ANP, Nisar Khalil, Arbab Khizar Hayat of the PML-N, Raja Gul, Iqtidar Ahmad, Hamadul Haq, Malik Najab Gul and Sirajul Haq filed papers.

Former provincial minister Kashif Azam of the JI, Asifullah Qasmi, Junaid Habib, Abdul Jabbar, Shah Hussain Afridi, Aurangzeb Mohmand, Ijaz Raza, Gohar Rehman, Asif Ali, Ashfaq Khalil, Sardar Wijay Singh and Alamgir Khalil of the PPP submitted papers for PF-6.

Former provincial minister Hafiz Hashmat of the JI, Maulana Ishaq, Mohammad Ameer Khan, Mufti Azhadullah, Ajmal Khan, Yousaf Khan, Mahmood Jan and Fakhre Alam filed papers for PF-7; former provincial minister Asif Iqbal Daudzai of the JUI-F, Jehanzeb Khan, Sarwar Khan, Arbab Akber Hayat, Israr Khan, Qari Saadat and Malik Tehmash Khan for PF-8; Arbab Ayub Jan of the ANP, Dr Iqbal Khalil, Akhter Ali Khan, Haji Gul and Qari Rafique Shah for PF-9; Jawed Khan Mohmand, Zahir Nawaz, Ghazanfar Ali, Khushdil Khan of the ANP, Qari Sajid and Farooq Khan for PF-10; Amir Muqam, Saqibullah Chamkani of the ANP, Khalid Waqar Chamkani, Intikhab Khan Chamkani, Qari Mujahid Zaman, Malik Fazal Burki and Misbahuddin for PF-11.
