DHAKA: The first body of an endangered Royal Bengal tiger killed by a devastating cyclone that smashed into southern Bangladesh has been found, the forestry department said on Monday.
The 2.7 metre tiger was discovered floating in a canal in the vast Sunderbans mangrove delta on Sunday, district forest official Mohammad Shahidullah said. “The tiger was killed in the cyclone. We don’t know how many were killed, but we have also recovered two dozen spotted deer,” Shahidullah said.
The Sunderbans, tropical islands crisscrossed by a complex network of canals and creeks, is the world’s largest mangrove forest and a United Nations heritage site.—AFP
