Haris’s hat trick in vain

LAHORE, March 28: Guard Filter beat Dream Team 5-4 1/2 in Summer Cup polo tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground Thursday.

Sufi Muhammad Haris scored a hat trick but ended up on the losing side who had started with a half-a-goal handicap.

Irfan Ali Hyder scored a field goal after a long chase and Taimur Malik with a long hit to put Guard Filter ahead 2-1/2.

In the second chukkur, Abdul Haye Mehta scored a field goal to increase Guard Filter lead. Haris then sprung into action and scored three goals in succession to bring Dream Team back in contention.

Immediately after Haris’ hat trick, Taimur scored a field goal with an angular shot before end of third chukker to increase Guard Filter’s lead.

Sufi Muhammad Amir scored the only field goal of third chukker on a rebound to put Dream Team 4 1/2-4 ahead for first time.

But in the final chukkur, Mehta scored only goal for the winners that turned out to be the match winner.

Friday’s fixture: CSM v WKF; Rangers v Nee Punhal. Both matches start at 4:30pm.
