ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: Seasoned lawyer and former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Munir Malik, has been held incommunicado in the Attock jail since his arrest soon after the imposition of emergency, and neither his wife nor any other member of the family has been allowed to meet him.

Mrs Malik told Dawn on Monday that she had absolutely no idea about the condition in which her husband was being kept and if at all he was being provided the medicines that he requires to take every day.

She said attempts by her and other members of the family to send him medicines had remained futile and none of them was allowed to meet Mr Malik.

Munir Malik belonged to a small group of lawyers who spearheaded the movement for the restoration of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chauhdry.

He also tried to turn the lawyers’ movement into a campaign against the military rule and many of his colleagues say that he and a few others were subjected to rough treatment and scores of people were rounded up after the imposition of emergency on Nov 3.

Mr Malik’s wife was worried, not only about him, as she said that the treatment being meted out to his colleagues like Ali Ahmed Kurd, Tariq Mehmood and even Aitzaz Ahsan was quite disturbing.

And Aitzaz Ahsan’s wife has said that her husband is still being kept in Adiala Jail where he has turned down any special treatment.

Bushra Aitzaz who has remained part of almost every protest rally in the city, said that with such a large number of lawyers and members of the civil society in Adiala and other jails, there was no question of Aitzaz Ahsan agreeing to any preferential treatment.
