KARACHI, Nov 20: Six alleged militants of Harkatul Mujahideen Al-Aalmi, who were facing retrial inside Central Prison Karachi for hatching a conspiracy to kill President General Pervez Musharraf in 2002, requested an anti-terrorism court on Tuesday to call the police officer responsible for the president’s security at the time of the incident.
Accused Mohammad Imran, Mohammad Hanif alias Ayub, Mohammad Ashraf, Waseem Akhtar, Mohammad Jamil and Arsalan alias Sharib recorded their statements under Section 342 of CrPC before the court, headed by Judge Ghulam Ali Samtio.
Special public prosecutor Niamat Rindhawa told Dawn that all the accused stated that they did not want to record their statement on oath neither they wanted to produce any witness in their defence. However, they requested the court to summon the then SSP Security, to inform the court what measures he had taken for the security of president’s cavalcade.
The court allowed their request and issued notices to the then SSP Security to appear before the court on November 23.
