MUZAFFARGARH, Nov 13: Three members of a family died of measles over a week in Basti Sadat.

Ghulam Abbas told this correspondent that his two daughters Rizwana, 7, and Shabana, 8, had died of measles last week. “My six-year-old son Ishfaque died of the disease today (Tuesday),” he said.

Abbas said a health team had visited the area last month and vaccinated some people but did not inoculate his children. “The health officials are responsible for the deaths,” he said.

When contacted EDO (health) Dr Habibur Rahman said he would send a team again to the village for vaccination. He said people did not take care of hygiene as a result the disease broke out.

Union council nazim Nasir Almani and Iqbal Pitafi alleged that the health officials ignored their area, saying that they had time and again sent many applications but to no avail.
