KARACHI, Nov 7: Unbeaten centuries by Naumanullah and Rashid Riaz gave National Bank a commanding start against Multan on the first day of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship at the Gymkhana Ground in Okara on Wednesday.
Opener Riaz, a 31-year-old right-hander, scored 126 — his maiden first-class century — and Nauman hit 131 in an unbroken second-wicket stand of 247 as the bankers closed at 307-1 after losing the toss.
Quetta’s Shoaib Khan and Naseem Khan also struck unbeaten hundreds as the home side sent Abbottabad on a leather hunt by amassing 355-4 at the Bugti Stadium in Quetta. Shoaib (165) and Naseem (135) put on 255 in their unfinished stand.
A defiant fifth-wicket partnership of 122 between Shoaib Khan (68) and Fahad Iqbal (54) rescued PIA from 72-4 to reach 229 in their first innings after Peshawar chose to field at the Arbab Niaz Stadium.
