LAHORE, Nov 7: National champion Aqeel Khan was the only local player who survived to reach quarter-finals of the ITF Pakistan F3 Future tennis championship for men, outplaying Vadim Alekseenko of Ukraine at the Cosmopolitan Club here on Wednesday.

Aqeel took only 38 minutes to overcome Alekseenko 7-5, 7-5.

He will now face India’s Ashutosh Singh in the quarter-final.

Ashutosh made his way to the last-eight by outclassing Bart Govaerts 6-2, 6-1.

Pakistan’s two players who failed to reach the next stage were Asim Shafik and Jalil Khan.

Asim lost to India’s Sunil Kumar 4-6, 2-6 while Lee Hsin proved too good for Jalil, wrapping up the match 6-1, 6-3.

In the doubles event, Ashutosh and Vivek Shokeen of India entered the final where they will meet the pair of Victor Bogdan (Romania) and Adam Vejmelka (Czech Republic).

Astutosh and Vivek beat Chang Huai and Lee Hsin Han of Taiwan 6-4, 7-6 (7) in the first semi-final.

Bodgan and Vejmelka were declared winners when the pair of Daniel Danilovic and Artem Isaev retired hurt after losing the first set 7-6 (4).
