Complete strike till 10th

LAHORE, Nov 7: Lawyers’ National Action Committee (NAC) has issued a call to continue complete boycott of courts throughout Pakistan till Saturday to protest the imposition of what it called “martial law” in the guise of emergency and the ensuing crackdown against lawyers.

“From Nov 12 onwards, the lawyers may plead cases before lower courts but they would not appear before the Supreme Court and High Courts till all the judges who took oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) were removed and who refused to take oath under the PCO were reinstated,” said an NAC statement issued by former Supreme Court Bar Association president Hamid Khan, Qalb-i-Abbas and Sakhi Sultan.

The NAC also appealed to all political parties, members of civil society organisations and professionals to support the lawyers’ movement, which was meant to secure the future of this country and to put to an end the “illegitimate” military regime of General Pervez Musharraf. The NAC appreciated the epic struggle being waged by lawyers against the “martial law” and also lauded Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and his brother judges who refused to take oath under the PCO.—Reporter
