PESHAWAR, Nov 5: The Peshawar chapter of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has condemned the arrest of lawyers and activists of political parties on a large scale after the imposition of emergency rule in the country.
Divisional president of the PPP, Syed Zahir Ali Shah, in a meeting with party workers at his residence demanded of the military government to restore the Constitution immediately.
The meeting was convened to discuss the preparations for the party’s November 9 rally in Rawalpindi, which is expected to be addressed by PPP chairperson Banazir Bhutto.
The party workers decided that they would participate in the public meeting in large numbers, to be held on Liaquat Bagh. Party banners and posters would be put up along the road from Hayatabad to Khairpur and along the other main roads, they added.
The participants of the meeting congratulated the judges who refused to take oath under the new PCO issued by the military government after declaring a state of emergency in the country, said a press release issued here on Monday.
They said the lawyers’ sacrifices would not run to waste.
