Rizwan, Atique grab doubles crown

LAHORE, Nov 2: Pakistan’s Rizwan Azam, pairing with Mohammad Atique Chaudhry, won the men’s doubles final against Sri Lanka at the Syrian International Satellite Badminton Tournament in Damascus.

The duo defeated top Sri Lankan pair of Diluka Karnaratne and Dinuka Karnaratne, top seeded in the tournament, 21-18, 21-17.

This is very significant performance by the Pakistani duo as some of the world’s high-ranked pairs are taking part in this tournament.

Earlier, in the semi-finals the Rizwan-Atique duo beat Iranians Ali Shah Hussain and Ghulam Raza Bagheri 21-17, 21-15. Pakistani players will now participate in the Jordan Satellite International tournament to be held in Amman, Jordan from Nov 3 to 6.
