SUKKUR, Oct 20: The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed, has said that in order to deal with the rising number of cases it is necessary to end shortage of judges.

Talking informally to local journalists at a dinner hosted in his honour by the Sukkur District Bar here on Saturday, he said to provide speedy justice to the needy people, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has already raised working hours by one hour so that maximum possible hearings could be undertaken.

Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed said unfortunately owning to low educational standard in Sindh, their was shortage of eligible and talented people.

The chief justice said that a summary had been forwarded to relevant departments to overcome the shortage of judges in lower courts, adding efforts too were afoot for provision of required facilities at subordinate courts across the province. The new buildings of courts in various districts including Sukkur were being built, he added.

Earlier, addressing the bar members, Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed said though striving for rights was a democratic right of the lawyers, but they should abstain from adopting such ways and means that could delay the provision of justice to poor and needy masses.

“The upholding of law in the country could only be sustained and justice given to people with coordination between the bar and bench,” he felt.

He said that the session judge was considered as Justice of Peace in his respective district, so lawyers should contact sessions courts instead of the high court regarding the matters pertaining to the misuse of powers by police or registration of the FIR.—PPI
