KARACHI: Video shopowner shot dead

KARACHI, March 21: A young man was shot dead and two others were wounded when unidentified assailants opened fire at a shop in Akhtar Colony on Thursday night.

The police said that unidentified assailants, riding on a motorcycle, sprayed a video shopowner, Kazim Jafri, aged 35, with bullets at Pindi Chowk in Akhtar Colony in the police limits of Mehmoodabad. While fleeing the assailants continued the firing wounding two other men who were passing in front of the shop in their vehicle.

The shopkeeper died on the spot. The injured, identified as Rizwan, aged 30, and Fazal Karim, aged 40, were rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where they were stated to be out of danger.

Kazim’s body was also sent to the JPMC for post-mortem, the police said.

The town police officer of Jamshed Town told Dawn that the killing appeared to be sectarian-motivated, and the two injured were not the real target.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A woman died in a road accident in Gulberg on Thursday night.

The police said that Khan Bibi, aged 37, was run over by an unidentified vehicle while walking across the main Shahrah-i-Pakistan near Water Pump.

She was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
