KHARTOUM, Oct 7: A town in Sudan’s troubled western province of Darfur near the scene of a deadly attack on an African Union base has been razed, the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) said on Sunday.
The town of Haskanita in south Darfur, which was destroyed on Saturday, saw a Sept 29 attack on an African Union base that left 10 peacekeepers dead and drew worldwide condemnation.
“The town, which is currently under the control of the government, was completely burned down, except for a few buildings,” UNMIS said in a statement, without specifying who was responsible.—AFP
