According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ended September 22, 2007, deposits and other accounts of the scheduled banks stood at Rs3,407.446 billion, larger by Rs26.324 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs3,381.122 billion.
Commercial banks deposits showed an increase of Rs26.372 billion over the week to Rs3,395.713 billion, against preceding week’s Rs3,369.341 billion. Specialised banks deposits stood at Rs11.732 billion, against preceding week’s Rs11.780 billion, a fall of Rs0.048 billion.
Borrowings by all scheduled banks decreased during the week over preceding week’s figure. It fell to Rs378.550 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs394.268 billion, a fall of Rs15.718 billion. This was primarily due to a decline in the borrowings by commercial banks, which fell to Rs297.474 billion against previous week’s Rs313.290 billion, or by Rs15.816 billion. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs81.076 billion, against preceding week’s figure of Rs80.978 billion, a rise of Rs0.098 billion.
Gross advances stood at Rs2,427.134 billion in the week under review, a decrease of Rs9.205 billion over preceding week’s figure of Rs2,436.339 billion. Advances by commercial banks fell to Rs2,330.919 billion against earlier week’s figure of Rs2,340.261 billion, or by Rs9.342 billion. Advances of specialized banks stood at Rs96.215 billion, higher by Rs0.138 billion over earlier week’s figure of Rs96.077 billion.
Investments of all scheduled banks increased in the week by Rs3.654 billion to Rs1,232.206 billion against preceding week’s figure of Rs1,228.552 billion. Commercial banks investment rose to Rs1,218.355 billion, from earlier week’s Rs1,214.986 billion, larger by Rs3.369 billion. Specialized banks investment stood at Rs13.851 billion, against preceding week’s Rs13.566 billion, larger by Rs0.285 billion.
Cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks rose by Rs6.416 billion during the week to stand at Rs344.121 billion against earlier week’s Rs337.705 billion. The figure for commercial banks stood at Rs341.733 billion against preceding week’s figure of Rs335.375 billion, a rise of Rs6.358 billion, while of specialised banks it stood at 2.389 billion over previous week’s 2.330 billion.
Total assets of scheduled banks stood at Rs4,578.505 billion, smaller by Rs5.533 billion, over preceding week’s figure of Rs4,584.038 billion. Meanwhile, commercial banks assets stood at Rs4,464.318 billion, smaller by Rs5.753 billion over previous week’s figure of Rs4,470.071 billion. Specialised banks assets rose to Rs114.187 billion, or by Rs0.22 billion over previous week’s Rs113.967 billion.
